Albion and Facebook
The club looked at a variety of options that could enable us to push quick information messages to club members. The mass use of smartphones and mobile information sharing offered us two options. Facebook or Twitter!. We've decided to experiment with Facebook as a medium to connect with club friends. FB also allows us to upload photos and up to the minute information on the go. Take a look at how it's going so far. Check us out on Facebook.f

Good news for U11s
The clubs U11s will travel to Craigroyston tomorrow morning to play the local side in a soccer sevens friendly. Players are asked to meet at Pilrig School at 9am
Pilrig Puddle Problems
This mornings pitch inspection was touch and go re deciding to play the match. Two fairly large puddles were present in the far corner of the park and after considering some remedial work it was quickly assessed that it would be a lost cause. With 90% of park in perfect condition the seniors will use the area this afternoon for a full coaching session from 2pm.

U11s sevens fixture ruined by rain....but!
Albion Junior U11s soccer sevens squad were due to head out of Leith to visit Gorebridge on Sunday morning, but as with everywhere else in the Lothian area, rain has left the home park waterlogged. The but in our heading is that the U11s coaching team are trying to arrange a last minute fixture at Pilrig. A few clubs have been contacted and are on stand by just in case Pilrig survives the Saturday morning inspection. More news as we get it..
Here we go again....
A second week of torrential rainfall has put paid to this weekends fixture list with a large percentage of public parks deemed unplayable at senior and youth level, even junior 7s fixtures failed to beat the weather. However, Albions seniors are due play Salters in a a league fixture tomorrow at Pilrig. A late afternoon inspection today confirmed that there is a lot of surface water and that there is only a slight chance the park will be deemed playable. With no rain forecast this evening or tomorrow, there will be a second inspection tomorrow morning at 10am

2-2 draw ends in abandoned match
Another jittery performance from Albion was heading for a share of the points when a serious injury to young full back John Martin left match official Mr. McGill with no option but to abandon the match. In the the final ten minutes, with both sides pressing for what might have been the elusive winner, players were stopped in their tracks, when young John slid in for a challenge and twisted his left leg, damaging his shin.
A call to the emergency services was relayed within minutes of home officials realising the issue called for expert medical help. However, the drama didn't end there as John lay on the pitch at Pilrig for over two hours. With the call made at approx 3:35pm it was 5:50pm, and two additional calls later to the emergency services, before the Albion player was finally lifted off the turf at Pilrig.
We'll post an update on John’s situation as soon as we have it.

U11s home to Musselburgh
The club ESSSDA 7s fixture tomorrow v Musselburgh will also go ahead as planned. No problems with the park at Pilrig and our 10.30am kick off is confirmed.
Albion park beats the weather
The incessant rainfall this week has put many games in doubt with parks waterlogged or being left to referees inspections. Not Pilrig. Both parks are in pristine condition and the Seniors league fixture between Redpath Albion and Meadow united was never in any real doubt. Kick off today at Pilrig is 2pm

Albion win after poor 90 minutes
Albion secured another 3 points with this 3-2 victory over Standard Life, but as a playing spectacle it was a poor performance. A dour 1st half with no goals, although Albion should have been two nil up in the first 3 minutes, the second half was as poor as the first even with five goals on show. It's a testament to the sides improvement that Albion can be critical of a winning performance, but the current squad have played much better and lost!. The drop in yesterday's standard might have something to do with the spoiling tactics of the opposition who in reality gave home keeper Wallace very little to do. Granted the visitors had two goals to show for their efforts, a penalty gifted from a goalkeeping error, and shoddy defending, but it was a disappointing home display from Albion. Two goals from Rutherford and a Brown free kick, gave Albion the win, but the three points is about the only positive you can take, from a scrappy below par 90 minutes.

U11s produce highly Polished Pilrig Performance
The clubs U11 section produced a text book performance in yesterday mornings ESSSDA game v Danderhall. An almost flawless display of quick passing, movement and finishing was witnessed by the large crowd in the early morning Pilrig sunshine. The young lads took their game to a new level, and with a very good Danderhall side making a very worthwhile contribution to a great game, every young player at Pilrig can congratulate themselves on a day where football was the biggest winner.

Gulf in class dumps Albion from cup
The visit to Whitburn Bluebell for yesterday's Centenary cup clash was a skill step too far for Albions seniors. A culmination of factors e.g a depleted squad due to work and the early kick off, injuries and holidays all played their part, but take nothing away from the home sides 5-0 victory, as it was fully deserved. Albion had no answer to the swift passing and movement of a side that looked like winners from the first whistle. Playing on a fabulous 3G surface the home side were clinical in all areas of the park and Albion would freely admit that it was difficult to come up with any answers to the home sides one-touch passing game. Down 3-0 in the first half, it was a fired up Albion who took the game to the home side and the visitors enjoyed a good 15 minute spell when they could have played their way back into the game with efforts from Murray and Marr that should have given them a lifeline. However, honest effort sometimes isn't enough against class opposition, and Whitburn ran out worthy 5-0 winners.
Summary - Even with a 5-0 defeat Albion had their moments in this game. With a bit more accuracy and taking the right options under pressure, it might have allowed Albion to have taken a bit more credit from this game. The highlights from an Albion perspective was the outstanding performance of captain and keeper Wallace. The number of improbable saves made by Wallace, especially a double save midway through the first half were top quality. Given the dominance of the home side Albion relied on the keeper heavily throughout the tie and he didn't dissapoint. The home side will be a match for any side in the association this season and their skilful possession game will be hard to match. Whitburn are certainly a big notch up from what Albion have come up against so far this season and if they produce these diplays consistently they will take some stopping.

U11s end up idle again...but some good news.
Albion's U11s have been left idling again this Sunday with the recognised opposition calling off and no replacements being found. As the school and park is booked and open, the lads will hold a coaching session from 10.30-12.30 to keep ticking over. The lads will be pleased to know that their individual customised playing kit will be distributed directly after the session. Each of the U11s squad will display their individual surname on this season playing kit. Possibly a first at this level, and a nice touch for the youngsters.
Albion dig in, but undone in final minute
Albion travelled to Premier Two side Ferniehill looking to upset the odds on this Logan Cup second round tie. Albion shuffled the pack for this tie with two changes made from Monday nights win. Both were tactical as Albion new they were in for tough day at Peffermill. The game, played out in a swirling wind, didn't allow for much silky football, but both teams faced each other with no illusions about what they required. Albion chased and closed down everything as Fernieside inevitably stroked the ball on the big playing surface. The 0-0 half time scoreline reflected the effort put in by Albion and although Wallace was the busier keeper, Albion's contribution to a decent first half, couldn't be faulted. Indeed a sweeping move down the right between Martin and Rutherford, almost saw Marr squeeze Rutherfords cut back in at the near post late in the half. Half Time 0-0. For the first 30 minutes of the second half it was Albion who had stood firm after a period of sustained possession and pressure from the home side. However, Albion came into their own from then on and at this point Albion took control. The ten minute spell gave Albion a fresh wave of confidence and Murray almost bundled the ball home in 71 minutes when a headed flick from C Martin left Murray unmarked in the area but his tame shot was saved by the home keeper. A swift four man move left Francis with space in the box, but his angled drive flashed past the keepers far post. In 85 minutes Murray's surging run and cross caused all sorts of problems in the home box, but as Albion lined up to take advantage, Smith shot wildly over the bar. With extra time looking likely, the home side found space down the right and the inch perfect cross was headed past the helpless Wallace to give Fernieside a late lead. It was too late for Albion to conjure up a reply and in injury time, the home side added a second, with Albion throwing everything into a late attack, they were inevitably left exposed at the back. Full Time 2-0
The loss of the late goals, 89 and 92 minutes, left Albion with too much to do. It was however, a very positive performance from Albion with every player playing his part. It was a dogged display, and with a bit more luck, and clinical finishing, it might have finished diffirently.

U8/9s new Monday sessions
Parents are reminded that the U9s sessions will take place on Mondays instead of Tuesday evenings, commencing next Monday 2 September. Sessions will be held at Pilrig Park and school from 6.30-7.30pm and supervised by club coaches Kris Collinson and Mac Tait and their respective technical teams.
U11s game in doubt
The revised ESSSDA fixtures teamed the U11s at home to Beeslack Thistle this Sunday, but the visitors have called off!. Can't remember the last time a Beeslack 7s team ventured down to Pilrig. Something always seems to come up when it's their turn to travel into Leith. Anyway, the club is now left struggling to find an opponent for this Sunday. We're only two games into the season and the no-shows have already begun. If we can find a replacement game for Sunday we'll update everyone by text.

Four goal Albion coast to first home win
Albions 4-2 home win v Prestonfield AFC was gained fairly comfortable, but how they huffed and puffed their way to the win. An early Glasgow goal should have indicated a fruitfull night, but they paddled about in the rain, with some woeful finishing throughout the 90 minutes. A second goal from Marr, after a brilliant 4 man move down the right, was a bright spot in proceedings, but within a minute the visitors had pulled a goal back after some dithering in the Albion back line. Half time 2-1
The second period was a carbon copy of the first with Albion dominating play, but failing to make any real impact in front of goal. They did however, add to their tally with further goals from Rutherford and a second from Glasgow. The visitors earned a late penalty to make the final score 4-2
Will they ever get it right....Update
Well, they did what it said on the tin! After some frantic negotiation between the club and parks services the parks maintenance team did everything asked in order to get Pilrig ready for Monday nights game. Lines were newly laid in the afternoon and our thanks to the guys for moving quickly.

Local authority and Pilrig park. Will they ever get it right?
Picture the scene. Pilrig park looking in great condition for last Monday nights senior home game. Grass nicely cut, sparkling new white lines, great scene for football. Tuesday night, the juniors hold two coaching sessions on the small park, as with the main pitch, grass cut and lines looking great. Wednesday, similar picture post card views of both parks. Roll forward to 1pm Saturday. Seniors training session at Pilrig Park. Where's the lines??. Between Wednesday and Saturday the local authority nipped into Pilrig and cut the grass. No harm in that we might say, but it's a whole new ball game when they cut and obliterate the lines on both parks. It was sheer luck that the seniors had no home game and the 11s were playing away on Sunday morning, because without lines both games would have been postponed. If it wasn't so serious, it would be funny. It's not the first time we've had to contend with this shambles. The seniors are playing a league fixture on Monday evening at Pilrig, and the club will now have to spend time chasing the park services team and ask then nicely if they could get down to Pilrig as a matter of urgency to restore the lines for tomorrow nights game. Given the past history with these requests made by the club, the public servants will probably find an excuse, not to provide a public service. We'd get more sense out of the Chuckle Brothers..
ESSSDA fixtures.....it's all change
After ESSSDA finalised and distributed a list of fixtures for the U11s, taking us up to 9 December, it's all changed. Within the space of a few days a number of teams have resigned before a ball is kicked. The following clubs in the 11s division have folded.
Craigroyston - Edinburgh Red Lions - Whitehill Welfare. The club will reissue a revised fixture list when ESSSDA notify us. Wonder how long this one will last for?
Albion 11s lose out in the Saughton sunshine
Albions 11s opened the first phase of their 7s season away to Tynecastle in glorious August sunshine. The early (9.30am) kick off and the AstroTurf surface were the first two hurdles the youngsters had to overcome, but all things considered, it was great way to spend an early morning. Albion played some great football and the game was evenly contested, however, some precise finishing by the home side, and Albion taking a while in getting to grips with the artificial surface, was enough to secure them an opening day win. But for some fine goalkeeping by the home keeper, things would have been different. Very positive performance by the lads.

6 minutes and counting.........
Albion came within 6 minutes of taking the three points at Pilrig last night. The night didn't start too well with the injury list increasing from Saturdays make shift side. The loss of Burnett, Weir and Heaney who all picked up serious knocks from Saturday, left Albion with some serious selection problems. Added to his was keeper Wallace, unavailable due to business commitments, and captain Rutherford, suspended on Saturday, but injured last night due to a niggling shoulder injury. With holidays still an issue, Albion struck a line through nine players on last nights team lines. With only a squad of 12 lining up for the game, it was with some trepidation that Albion approached the kick off. What a difference 84 minutes makes!. From the first whistle Albion stormed at their visitors and Cross should have had Albion in front after only 40 seconds but his angled shot was saved by the outstretched hand of the Academicals keeper. It was fully five minutes before the visitors made their first foray into the Albion half as the home side chased and challenged for every ball and forced their way on top in the game. Albion came close again in 19 minutes when big Robbie Scouse chipped a glorious swerving shot on to the bar only to see the ball rebound to safety. In an eveny balanced first half Albion could be pleased with the reaction. Half time 0-0
It was the visitors who opened the half in a more determined fashion and Albion were under a bit of pressure in the opening 10 minutes. The Albion back line with Grieve, commanding his goal area, stood up well to the pressure. The breakthrough came in 61 minutes when a wonderfully flighted free kick from Reilly found right back Chris Martin who out jumped the keeper to glance home a neat header to give Albion a 1-0 lead. The game ebbed and flowed from there, but slowly, but surely Albion found themselves defending in numbers and the well drilled back line lost concentration for the first time in the game when a low shot across goal found the striker unmarked at the far post who drilled home the equaliser in 84 minutes. The visitors now sensed an opportunity to salvage even more from their pressure and Albion had to pull in some extra effort in order to compete. It was looking like a deserved draw would be the likely outcome, when a dubious free kick was awarded to the visitors on the edge of the area. Albions offside trap failed to deliver, and with four Academicals players stood in the six yard box, Albion waited for the whistle that never came as the ball was headed into the net in the dying seconds. Albion restarted from the centre circle.....and the referee blew for time.Full Time 1-2. The timing of the goals were a sore point. Albion had put enough effort into this game to have deserved more. A draw would have been a fair reflection given the industry of both teams, but in reality the visitors displayed a bit more imagination than the home side in the last third. With strikers playing in midfield and midfielders playing in defence, all things considered, and with Albions pre match selection problems, the effort and display was more than a match for a very good Edinburgh Academiacals side.

Opening loss to Dunbar.
Albion have only themselves to blame for an opening day defeat. At sun kissed Hall Hill it was a perfect day for football and the immaculate home park looked inviting and just right for Albions style of play. The unknown quantity of the home side, new into the league, and playing their first competitive game, gave the fixture an edge. Albion had six key players missing due to holiday and suspension, so it was a reshuffled side that made the 30 mile journey to Dunbar, with only 12 players available, with a trialist, and one player only half fit, it was with some trepidation that Albion started the new campaign. It was a scrappy opening 15 minutes as both sides struggled to settle into any rythym, and it was the home side who benefited from a poorly cleared Albion ball that left the home striker with a clear site of goal to slam the ball past Wallace to put them in front. Albion woke up at this point and gave an indication that they were finding their stride. In 27 minutes it was all square a great one-two between smith and Glasgow ended with the Albion striker turning his marker and firing home to make it 1-1. Albion were pinning the home side back and three great chances, one from Brown, and two from Marr, were wasted. The second half was more open with Albion in control for long spells, however, a rare Dunbar attack ended in a spectacular, and somewhat speculative shot dipping over Wallace to give the home side an undeserved lead midway through the second half. That's when it all goes wonky!. With Albion totally dominant, it was all one way traffic as they squandered chance after chance. Three close range headers, with only the keeper standing in the way of a goal, were poorly directed and missed. Two strikes from the six yard area from Marr and O'Brien, could be classed as absolute sitters, with only the keeper to beat!. It went on and on. At the full time whistle Albion could only look and wonder at how they lost this one. With enough chances too have won this game with some ease, it all came down to a lack of composure in front of goal. Three points thrown away is the only conclusion we can take from this game.
Dunbar Athletic 2-1 Redpath Albion

The Great Unwashed!!!
Picture the scene, 2 squads of players and officials plodding about in the torrential rain for 90 odd minutes and soaked to the skin. Head back to the school changing rooms only to find the boilers broken and there's no hot water!. Now, Pilrig Park school where we change for games, required a special permit from the council to open for tonight's game and to confirm janitorial cover, as the clubs regular let arrangement won't kick in until the last week in August. The special let permit cost the club £84 to cover 6pm - 9pm, £28 per hour. For that price you can't get a F&@()/ wash. Basic hygiene needs don't apply in 2012. The janitor called the club during the day to inform us of the situation, but we were hopeful that the problem would be resolved, before the school closed for the days business. Not so. The school kitchen staff, pupils and teachers, must have had to make do with cold water on the first day of term. This in a special needs school where hygiene standards are of the utmost importance. Obviously, somebody at the council or the cowboy contractors, didn't think the situation warranted an emergency call out. Nobody should be surprised with the lack of a solution to the broken boiler problem given the local authorities track record with projects small and large, and the way it seems to pride itself in doing things the hard way. What a farce.....
Albion's final warm up game fails to impress
Albions final warm up game failed to reach the standards of their recent pre season outings. Although a 3-1 win v Melville Rovers looks a comfortable return, for a game
played in torrential rain from start to finish, it was less than impressive as both teams failed to master the conditions. Albion's 2-1 Half time lead, with goals from strike partners Glasgow and Marr, a late first half goal from the visitors, gave them a lifeline,in what was a poor first half. The second wasn't any better, with Albion only having a Smith goal to show for all their possession. As a "dress rehearsal" for Saturdays opening league game this performance is being filed away in the "do not open" file. Albion failed to do what they are good at and play to their strengths. It's been evident in the previous four friendlies where the squads strengths lie, but this evening, whether it was the weather and the fast, wet surface, they never rose to the standards or skill levels that were becoming their trademark. The real stuff begins on Saturday, so the squad will have to shake off this evenings lack lustre display, and rid this display out of the memory bank.
Full Time ---- Redpath Albion 3-1 Melville Rovers.
Albion U9s and ESSSDA application
The clubs plan to establish an U9s soccer sevens team within the ESSSDA set up have suffered a few blips. The summer close down didn't help as paperwork lay incomplete and applications to city of Edinburgh council re extended use of Pilrig School on Sundays are still awaiting decisions. Due to circumstances out with the clubs control, it's now likely that the U9s will have to defer their debut in the 7s divisions until sometime in September. Parent will be informed and updated as information filters through to the club.
Last senior friendly before the big day
Albion seniors will have their final warm up game this evening when Melville Rovers head down to Pilrig. KO 6.45pm? The opening day fixtures take place on Saturday 18 August with Albion making the long trip to meet new side Dunbar Athletic.
From Beckham to Zidane.....
Our U11 have applied to move into the ESSDA Zidane division. It's a significant jump from the current Beckham division. The application has been accepted and the lads and coaches are looking forward to a bigger challenge. ESSDA fixtures commence on Sunday 26 August with opening fixtures due to be released this weekend.

Albion 1-2 defeat, but still loads of positives
Albion went down to a similar midweek result in this loss to South Gyle Athletic. An indiffirent first half showing, with Albion looking nothing like the side who'd performed well in their previous three games, it was no surprise that they faced an uphill struggle at 0-2 down. The second half was the time to show some character and Albion proved they had it. A couple of formation tweaks and the second half came alive for the home side. Albion deservedly played their way into the game with a perfect delivery by Glasgow from a corner being expertly headed home by Murray. Alas, for all Albions dominance in the second period and two good chances missed by A Brown and a glaring miss at a free kick by centre half Collinson, Albion rightly felt dissapointed that they had to contend with another 1-2 defeat. The loss, if it had been reviewed purely on the first half performance, would have been a set back in terms of pre season preperation, but the manner in which the home side flipped from poor to great in the second half was pleasing. Five early morning call offs meant a major reshuffle of earlier plans to the game plan and maybe the fact that players had to fill in at positions they probably weren't comfortable with had a part to play. It's hoped Albion will have a full compliment of players for the final friendly on Wednesday, which is the final "dress rehearsal" for next seasons league kick off.

No, the ref wasn't joking!!
Wednesdays referee outlined some new rule changes in his pre match talk in particular one about the tape players used on their socks. It certainly gave us all a pre match laugh as we thought it was a joke. Not so!. The following "directive" has been handed down by the suits at FIFA.
Application of FIFA rules for Season 2012~2013
Law 4 – The Players’ Equipment: Stockings - if tape or similar material is applied externally it must be the same colour as that part of the stocking it is applied to.
Reason for rule change:
An increasing number of players are using excessive amounts of tape externally on their socks. This can be a multitude of colours and it completely changes the look of the sock. This can cause confusion particularly for assistant referees who may need to look at the sock to determine who last played the ball before it has gone out of play.
The Edinburgh & District Referee Association confirm that this rule will apply to football in the current season. Whilst it is a possibility that a referee may not enforce the rule, club officials, players and supporters should not contest the decision of a referee who does apply the rule.
Yeah, thought it would make you laugh.

Seniors Saturday Fixture
Albion will host South Gyle Athletic in their fourth friendly of their pre season build up on Saturday 11 August at Pilrig Park. KO2pm
Seniors Cup Draws
Albion were handed two away ties in the early season cup competitions. No dates secured for the ties, but Albion, who were given a bye, will face Premier 2 side Fernieside AFC, in round 2 of the Logan Cup. This fixture is a repeat of last seasons cup tie when Albion lost 4-1 at Peffermill. The Centenery Cup paired Albion away to Edinburgh West side Whitburn Bluebell with a long journey to the West Lothian town to look forward to. Date still be arranged.
Albion lose to late penalty
Albion travelled down to Whitecraigs in East Lothian last night to challenge Lothian East side Musselburgh Windsor. In brilliant sunshine, perfect for football on a vast and very large park, Albion were a goal down in just 30 seconds when a speculative shot from all of 40 yards flew over Wallace to give Albion a less than auspicious start. However, Albion quickly got down to business and slowly gained momentum to make a number of chances, the best falling to Rutherford and Brown, before Aldo Marr scored his second goal in successive games to give Albion a deserved half time share of the spoils. The second period was end to end stuff with both sides enjoying good spells of possession and their fair share of chances. It was however, a clumsy clash of legs in the Albion penalty area that gave the home side an opportunity to go ahead with a disputed spot kick. With both sides using their full compliment of substitutions both squads were climbing towards match fitness. Certainly, from Albion's point, it was a step up in energy from the previous two friendlies, and Albions two games per week schedule is proving worthwhile.
Result - Musselburgh Windsor 2 - 1 Redpath Albion AFC.

Albion enjoy a day in the sun
Albion recorded their second pre season win as they produced the goods at sun drenched Pilrig Park. Visitors Edinburgh Academicals proved worthy challengers as the first half of this match produced very few chances for either side. But it was a different story in the second as Albion shuffled the pack to 'experiment' with formations and it paid off. Goals from Chris Martin and Aldo Marr were enough to see Albion take the spoils. Both trialists played their part in Albions win and contributed to another solid performance.

New addition to Edinburgh East Division
The club have been notified that Edinburgh Star will replace West Pilton Albion who withdrew L&EAFA. This brings the Edin East division back up to the original 13 teams.
Five new squad additions....and counting
Albion have been quietly recruiting a number of additions to the squad. Making the transition from last seasons senior squad are long serving goalkeeper Wallace, with midfielder Chris Martin and striker Rutherford, expressing their loyalty to the club by resigning. New signings, Aldo Marr (Striker) and ex Albion youth player Scott Weir (midfield/full back)the latest due to pledge their signatures. Two trialists will hopefully make their mark in tomorrows game at Pilrig which will possibly bring the new signings to seven for season 2012/2013. It won't stop there as negotiations are taking place with an additional three players.
Saturday friendly - Venue switch
Tomorrows senior pre season friendly v Edinburgh Academy will now be played at Pilrig Park. KO 2pm
Edinburgh East Division amendment
Last nights L&EAFA meeting, the first of the season, outlined changes and minor amendments to league reconstruction. Albion were directly affected by the announcement that West Pilton Albion were a late withdrawal from our division. The association will aim to plug that gap by reshuffling and allocating a replacement club to cover the WPA withdrawal.

Seniors re-scheduled training session
Due to tonight's fixtures cancellation the senior squad will have a training session at Pilrig Park. 6:30pm start.
Last minute association tweaks kills tonights fixture
Tonight's friendly away to Dunbar has been postponed. The L&EAFA have had a last minute revamp of the divisions and downsized from six divisions to five. All clubs affected will now have fixtures rescheduled. This includes Albion. Tonight's opponents, Dunbar United, now find themselves in the same division as Albion, and it was agreed by both clubs that it would be to no ones benefit if both sides were to proceed with a friendly. Due to divisional restructure the league season has been put back a week. The season will now kick off on Saturday 18 August and not the 11th as proposed. The association news now leaves clubs scrambling around looking for additional pre season friendlies.

Albion ease their way into season with a win
Albion opened their pre season programme with a convincing 1-3 win away to Edinburgh East division side Salters AFC. As this was the first of Albion's four game programme fitness would be tested and in yesterday's heat the squad showed no ill affects. A well contested first half, with both keepers kept busy, both sides had failed to find the net, and at half time and a score of 0-0 the sides were evenly matched. An early second half goal from the home side spurred Albion on and for the remainder of the game it was all Albion. With a series of missed chances from Albion it was left to Brad Glasgow to show the way with a first class hat-trick to give Albion a well deserved and comfortable 1-3 win and set the squad up for their next friendly and Wednesdays visit to Dunbar United.

In order to prepare for the new season, our 9s/10s and U11 squads, are reminded that sessions for the new season at Pilrig Park begin on Tuesday 31 July
Seniors rule change long overdue
The national legislators have finally listened to the people that matter, the players. For as long as we can remember there has been a huge lobby of local associations from U19 through to Amateurs imploring the games "rulers" to allow the use of five substitutes to be used at each game. Next season the associations administering 19s to Senior will trial the five substitute rule. Now at least if you list 16 players to play
clubs will have an opportunity to offer all 16 players some game time.

Albion 11s end season in style
Albion's early morning trip to Roslin for their end of season fixture was wrapped up in some style as they produced another superb high standard performance. Sun, rain and a stiff breeze, added to the excitement and both sets of players coped admirably with the good old Scottish weather. A high return of goals from Albion ensured the lads finished the season on a real positive note.

U11s on the road on Sunday

Sunday, 17 June 2012
Rain stops play!
To use an old cricketing comment, Rain Stopped Play at Pilrig this morning, as the club was left with no alternative but to postpone the U11s game. The constant rainfall left the park unsuitable for football at this level. There was a 50/50 chance of playing but dragging Beeslack in to Leith from out of town left us with no option. We'll try to play the fixture next Sunday. It was particularly disappointing for everyone as this was officially the last game of the ESSSDA season.
Friday, 15 June 2012
Saturday session postponed
The regular U11s coaching session, due to take place tomorrow at Pilrig Park, has been postponed. With constant showers over the last 48 hours, the sevens park at Pilrig, is being preserved to ensure that Sundays U11 fixture vs. Beeslack can go ahead. Any activity on the park tomorrow would have an adverse affect on the playing surface.
Albion U10s
Albion will register an U10s squad with ESSSDA for start of the New season in August. In keeping with the clubs player pathway the next development stage for the U10s is a commitment to enjoying soccer sevens games, home and away, on a Sunday morning. The lads parents have been consulted on the proposal and the feedback has been very positive. With a dedicated coaching team in place these plans are now being facilitated with more details to follow throughout the Summer.
Seniors arrange fourth warm up game
The Seniors have now added a fourth pre season warm up fixture to their busy list with a visit to Edinburgh Acadademicals planned for Wednesday 1st August. More details to follow.
Final ESSSDA fixture takes place on Sunday
The U11s short soccer 7s season ends on Sunday with the lads playing host to Beeslack Thistle at Pilrig Park. Kick off is at usual time of 10.30am. It's hoped that we can arrange two additional friendly games before breaking for the holiday on Tuesday 26 June.

Albions YouTube Chanel getting bigger
Two new updates to the Albion YouTube Chanel have been processed over the weekend. The U11s games vs. Currie and Danderhall are now online.
11s suffer another idle weekend
The U11s were left with another blank Sunday when their planned game away to Arniston was cancelled due to the home side withdrawing from the association. This sequence of call offs has had an impact on the lads playing season. Arniston are now the fourth team from their division to withdraw which accumulates to almost 50% of the teams walking away from the Sunday morning game.
Friday, 8 June 2012
Seniors add third pre season game to programme
A third pre season friendly has been added to the Seniors itinerary. The seniors travel to Musselburgh Windsor on Wednesday 8 August. Details of KO times and travel arrangements to be posted nearer the time. This game will be the squads final warm up game before the season kicks off on Saturday 11 August.
Albion Colts now Albion AFC
The resignation of the Senior Ams from this seasons L&EAFA leagues paved the way for the Colts to apply for a name change. The league officially agreed the change last night and the Colts will now carry the title of Redpath Albion AFC. The team will maintain their position in this seasons Edinburgh Central League.
U11 Sunday Fixture
The Juniors will travel to Arniston this Sunday for their latest ESSDA fixture. Players/parents will be notified by text with confirmation of kick off and meeting times.

Junior coaching sessions...Tuesday 5 June
The junior coaching sessions planned for Pilrig Park on Tuesday 5 June are stil going ahead despite the jubilee holiday. Lads are requested to meet at usual times.
Senior Ams. It's official.
It is with some regret that the club has made the major decision to withdraw the Senior Ams from the L&EAFA this season. A culmination of issues concerning the administration and management structures surrounding the Ams was debated over the past two months, but solutions were unable to be found. The management team took a decision to step down from the never-ending duties associated with running a side at Ams level and the club fully respected the decision. With Ams manager Geoff Cowan moving out of the city, and assistant Kevin Ross juggling increasing work commitments, the club proposed a number of solutions to the existing squad, but the response was disappointing. The association were officially notified today. Our heartfelt thanks to Geoff and Kevin for all their time and effort. With 25 years club service between them they brought a stability to club affairs at senior level, and the often thankless tasks associated with facilitating and administering team issues, have now run their course. Our thanks to both from everyone associated with the club. The Colts squad will now continue to fly the banner for Redpath Albion.

Albion U11s light up Pilrig with classy display
It was a day to remember at Pilrig Park as this talented young squad of U11s displayed a style of play that brought the "house" down at Pilrig. From beginning to end, the ease with which they stroked the ball around the big playing surface at their home ground was at times breathtaking. The passing and movement was of the highest quality at times, and the subtle touches and goalmouth finishes, were a measure of the work and effort put in by the Albion coaching team, and indeed the players. Big mention to keeper "Stacky" Miller who's shot stopping and ball handling was a big talking point among the coaches. The extra work "Stacky" and the coaching team have been putting in recently, with specific keeper coaching, was witnessed today. Visitors Danderhall, themselves full of good skilful players, tried hard to make a game of it, and gave "Stacky" a busy time in spells, but in the end the sweeping and flowing football produced by this special crop of players, confirmed their place as victors.

Senior Ams avoid drop
The Ams relegation saga, with two sides Albion being one of them, both sitting in joint bottom place with twenty points.Panic over. Seaforth Highlanders were deducted points for unfulfilled fixtures and now only record 17 points from 20 games. The Highlanders will now join North Edinburgh Wands as the two relegated sides for season 2011/2012.
Coming Soon....New U10s sevens team
The club is at the advanced planning stage on establishing an additional soccer sevens team to enter the ESSSDA 7s set up from August 2012. Our coaching team is almost in place, and our current U10s will be preparing for the step into Sunday morning football over the Summer. Discussions with parents have been very positive and all have been receptive to committing to the idea. With the coaching team all but finalised, the U10 parents will be formally canvassed, with details on all aspects pertaining to the club/parent/player involvement and requirments being distributed in the next few weeks. Barring any administrative obstacles,ESSDA and SYFA registration will be the next step in securing the clubs player pathway.
Fun in the Sun for U11s
An early morning 9:15am kick off for the U11s as they travelled up to Kingsknowe for the visit to Currie BC. A fantastic end to end game with both sides playing some good football as the youngsters coped well with the early morning hot temperatures. The fourteen goal thriller ended all square with Albion's goals coming from Bryce 2, McGoldrick 2, Scott, Simpson and Kerr.

Albion's Senior Sides....What the future holds?
With both senior management teams standing down at the end of the season the club has offered options to existing squad players with a view to canvassing for replacements. Each of the current squad at Senior Ams level were asked formally, with letters distributed to each player, requesting that they assist the club with finding a solution to appoint a new management team. There have been tentative discussions, with certain senior squad players, endeavouring to find an answer to the problem, but at the time of writing no solutions have been found. The situation is now critical as the L&EAFA AGM is being held in under a weeks time and the league association will be looking for a firm commitment from the club in relation to registering the Senior Ams for next seasons league campaign. The situation re new management appointments go beyond the role of team playing affairs. The substantial outlay required by clubs just to keep solvent is increasingly becoming a major obstacle. With association and national affiliation fees reaching £300+ the insurance premiums, both personal injury and public liability, pitch and referee fees all having to be considered along with new kit purchases, the decision to appoint the right management team at Senior Ams level can't be taken lightly. The Senior Colts Squad's position is less of a problem. Although no managment team may be appointed, the senior players within the group, have decided that three or four of the squad will "share" the management duties and tasks. There is a real desire among the squad to nurture and develop the idea. It may be deemed as unorthodox, but the running of the section as a ”co-operative” has a great chance of working. This idea has also been proposed to the Senior Ams as a possible solution. It may be the only solution!
L&EAFA Annual Meeting
The Lothian and Edinburgh Amatuer Football Association AGM will be held on Thursday 31 May at Boroughmuir Sports Complex,Meggetland at 6:45pm. All Senior Amateur clubs are expected to register their attendance. failure to attend will result in the L&EAFA levying a fine of £50 to all clubs not in attendance.
U11s new Saturday sessions
The long awaited Saturday U11 coaching sessions can finally get underway this weekend after a two week delay due to the atrocious weather conditions. The core element of the additional sessions will be aimed at addressing match situations that can't be covered at Tuesdays regular weekly coaching night. Players are requested to be at Pilrig Park for 1:15 prompt with sessions ending at 3:30pm. Pilrig School is open and changing facilities will be used. The additional sessions will continue through June.
U11s Sunday fixture change
The U11s ESSDA fixture has been subject to a late change. Dalkeith Miners can't fulfill the designated fixture, so the club moved swiftly, to rearrange last weeks postponed fixture away to Currie BC. Kick off on Sunday at Kingsknowe is 9:15am.
U7s head for Pilrig
The 7s section will enjoy a rare outdoor visit to Pilrig Park tonight and hold their coaching session in the open air. It will be a welcome change from the indoor hall at Pilmeny Youth Centre. Parents are reminded that lads can meet the mini bus at the youth centre - 6:10pm returning at 7:25.

Currie Cancelled
We've just had notification that our U11 fixture away to Currie BC is OFF due to Kingsnowe park being waterlogged. Not surprising given this weeks rainfall.
Tuesday 22 May.....school in service day....not for us
The Edinburgh long weekend holiday, Monday 21 being Victoria Day, the schools are also closed for an in-service day on Tuesday 22nd. The club's Tuesday evening coaching sessions for all 8-11 age levels will be held as usual. Same times, same place.
Here we go again!
After a second week of torrential rain Sunday's ESSDA 7s game could be in some doubt. The fixture away to Currie BC at Kingsknowe Park could end up waterlogged. With no game last week, Musselburgh resigning from the association, it will be a big dissapointment if the weather wins again. Fingers crossed that the parks dry out and if they do the 7s game kicks off at 9:30am. Meeting times will be arranged in next 24 hours.
Saturday, 12 May 2012
U11s Summer Coaching sessions
The Club will introduce Saturday coaching sessions for the U11 squad. Commencing on Saturday 26 May from 1pm to 3pm
sessions and continue through to Saturday 23 June.
May Monsoon closes parks down
The three day onslaught of torrential rain has all but wiped out weekend fixtures in Lothian's. A casualty of the heavy rain was the club only weekend fixture, the U11 sevens fixture, away to Musselburgh. With pitches waterlogged, including Pilrig, the club had no alternative but to cancel Sundays event.
Ams relegation issue....who now goes down?
With the season all but over the Ams find themselves rooted, second from the bottom, and in essence would be prime relegation candidates?. Not so. Linlithgow now sit in joint 2nd bottom, with both clubs on 20 points each!. Relegation will now be decided by collating each clubs disciplinary points for this season. The team with the worst record will take the drop. Only disciplinary points from league games will be counted. At the time of writing the club is unsure which way the count will go. We may be informed soon, or may have to wait until the association AGM later this month.

Albion on You Tube
We've uploaded a few video's of recent club games to You Tube. Although seen as a bit of fun, it will give the club another medium for promoting club activities. Members will able to share events with friends and family throughout the world. Since uploading earlier in the week we've had loads of messages noting that relatives can now log on and view nephews, cousins, grandsons etc at play. We've gave it a public listing so we'll see how it goes. Have a look and enjoy the footage at http://www.youtube.com/user/redpathvids/videos (you may have to cut & paste link into browser)

Ams still clinging to life in Premier Division 2
Results at the weekend favoured the Ams survival cause with Linlithgow losing narrowly at home. It still leaves 3 sides sitting on 20 points in joint second bottom. It looks like it will go down to the wire.
Ams just edge end of season classic
It was a weekend for big crowds at Pilrig with a larger than usual gathering turning out to watch the end of season match. If anyone thought this was going to be a stroll in the sun they were quickly reminded that both sides wanted bragging rights and in a very entertaining 90 minutes the Ams just edged it with a 4-2 victory.
Juniors entertain two big Pilrig crowds
Friday nights game v 3v2 Soccer Academy drew in a huge crowd for what was a master class in football by two talented squads of U12s. The results are irrelevant at this level and both sets of coaches were delighted with the input from their players. Sunday morning and Albion entertained Kirkliston SQ, in what was another game to thrill the large Pilrig crowd. The game kick off in brilliant sunshine, then ended in a downpour, that affected both sides of young players as the dramatic weather change made life difficult, with the surface becoming wet and slippy. The away side just egded it on the day and the punters who stayed with the game, despite the weather, witnessed some cracking goals.

Ams v Veterans bring curtain down on Seniors season
Tomorrows Ams v Veterans game at Pilrig Park, kick off 1:30pm brings the 2011/2012 season to an end. A strong veterans side will be the final test for this seasons senior squad. The game will allow Ams players to bid a fond farewell to the current management team of Geoff and Kevin who are both standing down due to work and family commitments, and to a number of current players, who have decided to retire. Win or lose, both squads will enjoy a post match celebration.

Albion's Friday U7 session
The U7 session tomorrow evening will take place at Pilrig Park, weather permitting of course. It will allow the lads to enjoy a session on grass, with a bigger area to utilise, and also take in some of the U11 v 3v2 game. All meet at Pilrig for 6:30pm
U11s v 3v2 Soccer Academy
The long awaited friendly sevens match against 3v2 Soccer Academy will take place tomorrow night, Friday 4 May at Pilrig Park. Quick note: As Albion have three U11 lads who attend the 3v2 Elite sessions we'd like to reaffirm to parents that the boys will be lining up in Albion colours.
Wee James in the wars
The club were notified yesterday that U11 player wee James Kerr suffered a dislocated shoulder in a playground accident . The club, the coaches, and his squad mates, wish him a speedy recovery.
Ams...there's still hope.
The Ams Premier Division 2 fate is still finely balanced. Sitting in second bottom spot on 20 points the two teams above them both sit on the same point mark, but each have 1 game left to play. Defeat for both would leave three sides sitting in joint second bottom place in the division. How will it all end? The next seven days will reveal all.

U11s rise to the challenge
The 11s came away from Danderhall, registering another comfortable win on the road. On a freezing morning, which felt more like December than April, Albion stood up to what was certainly the most “physical” challenge they’ve faced this season. Some of the challenges were ”keen” to say the least, but Albion never lost their stride, and coped with both the weather and the opposition. The lads will this week have a fun session on Tuesday, before hosting a friendly match on Friday 4 May, when they play against Albions partner coaching group, 3v2 Soccer Academy U12 lads Kick off is 6:30pm at Pilrig.
Friday, 27 April 2012
U11s game details
Game away to Danderhall on Sunday is 11am kick off. Players requested to meet mini bus at Pilrig Park 9:45am prompt.

U11s on their travels this Sunday
The Junior 7s team will travel to Danderhall on Sunday for their ESSSDA sevens game. Meeting and kick off times will be confirmed by tomorrow.
Ams get a weeks breathing space
The Senior Ams, who played and won their final game of the season, are hanging on to the relegation trap-door as we wait for other teams to falter. Last nights results went in our favour, and the Ams moved up a league place as they swapped with last nights losers Linlithgow. Results between now and next week will decide the Ams league status.
Monday, 23 April 2012
Albion win the battle for three points
Albion battled back from being 0-2 at half time to snatch a well deserved 3-2 win with an Archibald goal in the dying minutes of the game. The game was a meaty affair with the match official having to earn his fee as the visitors finished the game with only nine players. Albion had to show some real character to earn the three points and it was a supreme effort that gives them a flicker of hope in their fight to beat relegation.
Final Senior game of season at Pilrig tonight.
The Senior Ams will bring down the curtain on their league and cup campaign for season 2011/2012. A win v Livingston tonight would just about keep their very slender hopes of avoiding relegation alive. Anything less and the Ams drop out of Premier Division Two.
Sunday, 22 April 2012
Ams v Albion Veterans
Saturday 5 May will close the Seniors season with a Senior Ams v Albion Veterans Game. With a number of Ams players retiring from the game, including the seniors managment team, the club have pulled together a formidable gathering of ex youth and senior players, the interest from the veterans has been so great that we could have fielded two teams,
to bring down the curtain for the retiring players and officials, and allow the club to celebrate the many years of service given to the club. Considering that five of the retirees have devoted 76 years of club service between them, from youth through to Amateur, it should be a day to remember. The day will end with a reception at the Strathie Bar. Kick off is 1:30pm and a bright sunny day should bring out a decent crowd.
Albion defeat points to relegation
Albion's 3-4 home defeat yesterday to Bathgate almost certainly means relegation from Premier 2. It could have been all so different if they hadn't let a 2-0 lead slip, then a 3-2 lead, but sloppy defending and some wayward finishing, allowed the visitors to edge back into the game and a poorly defended corner with 4 minutes left on the clock cemented
Albion's position firmly rooted in the drop zone. Even a win in their last outing of the season at home to Livingston on Monday evening (23 April) may not be enough, even if other results go their way.

Junior Coaching sessions - A reminder
Quick reminder to parents and players who attend the Tuesday sessions at Pilrig. Please remember to bring indoor and outdoor kit each week, especially outdoor footwear. The good weather will now allow us to do most of our sessions on the 7s park. However, if the weather was to suddenly change, we'd have to move back into the games hall, so it's important that players bring both sets of footwear each week.
Albion U7s accept SFA Complimentary tickets
Our U7s will enjoy a visit to Wednesdays Scotland v Italy U21 game at Easter Road. The club have been allocated 10 complimentary tickets issued to clubs local to the match venue. Two club coaches will accompany 8 players to the game which kicks off at 7pm. This will be, for many of the lads, their first time in a match stadium, and let's hope they enjoy the experience with a Scotland win.

U11 Midweek Games
The U11 have no fixture this Sunday due to the coaches attending the SFA Conference. The club has however, invited three clubs to come down to Pilrig, to play some midweek games. They've still to be confirmed, but news should be available soon. One game definitely confirmed is a friendly against the clubs partner organisation 3v2 Soccer Academy planned for Friday evening 2 May with a 6:30 kick off.
Only two left?
The senior Ams have only two fixtures left. Both are home games with the first on Saturday v Bathgate then Monday evening, 23 April at home to Livingston AFC kick offs 2pm and 6:30pm respectively. Maximum points from both games are vital to give Albion any chance of avoiding relegation.
Albion's Junior coaching teams head to Livingston
The clubs junior coaching teams will head for Braidwood Motors Stadium Livingston on Sunday 21 April to attend the annual SFA Coaching conference. As well as a multitude of coaching tips and advice on offer, there are practical coaching sessions being facilitated by Alan Irvine (Everton Academy coach) and Steve Agnew (Middlesborough) SFA coach Donald Park will also provide technical advice. The day ends in a question and answer session. It's a full day, 9am to 4pm, with lunch provided. This will be Albions fourth year of attending the conference and it's a fantastic experience for our club coaches.

All back to normal
All Junior sections are back to normal this week as the Easter break ends. The U8/9/10s and U11 all resume coaching sessions at Pilrig Park and school on Tuesday 17 April at Pilrig Park.
The U7s resume on Friday 20 April at Pilmeny Youth Centre, usual starting times for all age groups.

What a difference a day makes.
Sunday morning at Pilrig was the perfect medicine for the dissapointment of the previous day.
The U11s played host to Cramond in an ESSSDA 7s fixture and on a lovely spring morning turned in a performance of the highest quality. The movement, passing and clinical finishing of the home side, was a sight to behold. The natural creative play from the U11s had the neutrals in the morning crowd praising the spectacle of flair on show. As one old worthy put it on his way out of Pilrig he'd have happily paid SPL prices to have watched Albion's performance.

The trap door opens?
Another home defeat for the Ams on Saturday leaves them with one foot in the relegation zone. The 1-4 defeat to Edinburgh Rose now leaves Albion with the precarious task of having to win their final two home fixtures, then hope for other teams to slip up, to have any chance of avoiding relegation. It's been a dramatic three months for the Ams as they hit a terrible run of form. From early January they were sitting comfortably in the top four, then a spate of injuries and the loss of key players through various reasons, work etc, left them spiralling down the table. It was interesting that Saturday's game especially, wasn't a 1-4 game!. Both sides were evenly matched, with both having a similar amount of possession and chances, but it was Albion who suffered most, through some errors and costly decisions from the match official.
Also with the squad at a bare minimum, with both veteran coaches, involved in the on-field action, it was a difficult day all round. So to the next, and final two home games, their fate is in their own hands.

Ams end of season poor form continues
The Ams lost their midweek fixture away to league leaders Heriot Vale 4-0. The result now leaves the Ams sitting precariously above the relegation drop zone and a win at Pilrig Park on Saturday is now vital.

Please note that the school is closed due to the Easter holidays and players are advised to attend in outdoor kit.
Ams holiday fixture
The Ams are due to interrupt their Easter long weekend holiday this evening when they travel to play Heriot Vale in a league fixture. With recent defeats resulting in a drop into the lower half of the table three points are badly needed.

With Easter school holidays in full swing all junior sections are having a coaching free week. Our 8/9/10s will return on Tuesday 17 April, the U7s on Friday 20 April. The U11s will have a fixture on Sunday 15 April and a coaching session has been arranged for Tuesday 10 April

Signing deadline
Yesterday, 31 March, was the deadline for signing new players, with all clubs having to apply the rule. Albion moved quickly last week to sign three new players. A total of 9 players have been released, five in midweek, and four last night. The final four were cut loose after yesterday's no show.
Weekend Woes - Part Two
The U11s game was postponed at short notice due to visitors Alnwickhill being unable to field a team. The casual nature of the ESSSDA 7s allows for this type of situation, with rightfully, no recriminations for clubs who decide to cancel. However, it does have an impact, and the fact that Redpath Albion have booked a park, janitorial cover for the school changing rooms which all has to be paid for, as well as the dissapointment felt by our U11 players, the timing of such cancellations has to be questioned. A quick phone call early in the week would make a lot of difference to the club who are left with no game. This morning the lads have had to make do with a coaching session.
Weekend woes
Saturday threw up a few disasters for the club's two senior sides. The Ams were overwhelmed by a very good Fernieside squad who came to Pilrig and were worthy 1-4 winners. The home side looked jaded and it was a typical end of season performance. The Colts were unable to fulfill their fixture away to Mayfield/Easthouses due to a lack of players. Some key squad members took fright at the mere mention of the visit to the league leaders and failed to show for the squad departure time. All credit to the 10 stalwarts who did arrive ready to play. With only one league game left, home to Mayfield/Easthouses, date to be arranged, Albion Colts will finish the season with a bare squad of twelve regulars. An end of season meeting between Colts players and the club, will determine whether they wish to register for next seasons campaign.
Friday, 30 March 2012
Weekend Fixtures
The Senior Ams entertain Fernieside AFC in a league fixture at Pilrig Park - KO 2pm. The Ams Colts head to Mayfield/Easthouses in the quarter finals of the Robertson cup. Sunday's ESSSDA 7s game will match the U11s at home to Alnwickhill - Kick off at Pilrig is 10.30am

The Camp is being held at Pilrig Park and School from 9am - 4pm on Tuesday 10, Wednesday 11, Thursday 12 and Friday 13 April. For details contact the coaching team via the 3v2 website on www.3v2socceracademy.co.uk
U11 shine in the sun
Our U11 ESSSDA squad enjoyed a trip up the hill to Colinton where they visited the home of AC Oxgangs. The early 9.30am kick-off, tied to the changing of the clocks to summer time status, had no affect, and a bright sunny morning allowed the lads to enjoy their third game of the season. The game was a real end-to-end affair and the home side just edged it.

Pilrig double header = Double defeat!
Both Albion sides found themselves at home for the first time this season and a busy Pilrig Park, shrouded in mist for most of the day, failed to deliver the wins expected. The Colts kicked off at 1pm, but the game was hardly a thriller. With both sides locked at 0-0 at half time, one lapse in concentration was all it took for the visiting Dunedin side to edge ahead, midway through the second half, when Albion were caught out at a short corner. Thats how it ended with Albion losing 0-1. The 3pm start with the Senior Ams hosting Heriot Vale, was a more open game and after dipping into a 0-2 first half defecit, the Ams finally ran out 1-4 losers.

U11s on the road again this week
Albion's U11 soccer 7s side are on their travels again this week when the lads head up to Colinton to play AC Oxgangs. Its an earlier than usual kick-off at 9.30am and the club bus leaves Pilrig at 8.30am

The Albion Colts will play Dunedin with a 1pm Kick-off. All players to report by 12pm prompt

An interesting twist to an unusual situation, is that match official, Mr Dixon will referee both games.

SFA Coaching Conference
Albion will have 6 coaches in attendance at the SFA coaching conference being held at Livingston's Braidwood Motors Stadium on Sunday 22 April. The conference is being facilitated by the SFA with presentations and practical coaching sessions undertaken by Alan Irvine and Michael Agnew, Everton and Middlesborough Youth Academy directors, along with the experienced Donald Park. The conference is an all day affair with lunch provided. This will be Albion's fifth conference and every club coach who has attended has highly recommended the experience. In recent years Academy coaching directors have attended from Everton, Man Utd, Liverpool, Celtic and Chelsea.
L&EAFA Future fixtures posted
The Ams association have published fixtures for the run up to the start of midweek fixtures. Both Albion sides haven't been allocated any midweek games for the week beginning 2 April. Both Albion sides will also have free weeks on Saturday 7 April, Easter weekend. Full listings of L&EAFA fixtures can be found at the association website.
U11s show some style in win at Roslin
The U11s notched another win away to Beeslack Thistle in the ESSSDA 7s. The lads slick passing movement and creative play proved too much for the home side and another win will give the boys added confidence.

Super Saturday for Albion Senior Sides
It was Super saturday for bouth squads as Albion's Ams sides both recorded good wins. The Ams had a tricky one at Pilrig where they hosted North Edinburgh Wanderers and the 2-1 hadly reflected the dominance Albion enjoyed in this game. A series of missed chances would have gave the home side a bigger win margin but the win is to be savoured with the important 3 points allowing the Ams to climb the table. The Colts travelled down to Meadowmill where they faced Lothian star, sitting in joint third, with the home side probably confident of 3 points, in their quest for promotion. The East Lothian venue, with its immaculate playing surface, gave both sides an opportunity to spread the passes, but the sloping pitch and strong wind, was to have a hand in the end result. Albion skipper Richie Irvine, elected to play up the slope, against the wind in the 1st period and as predicted the home side peppered the Albion goal, using the wind, but to no affect as Albion keeper Grieve and his defence coped well. It was Albion however, who created the more chances, and with two glaring opportunities missed, it was a Glasgow goal that put Albion deservedly in front on the stroke of half time. The second half, predictably, saw Albion flow forward down the slope and by the time the home side levelled in 70 Minutes, Albion should have had the game wrapped up, but for a bundle of missed opportunities. The visitors however, took a deserved lead with 6 minutes left, when Glasgow turned his marker on the edge of the area and fired home to make it 1-2

U11s start season with a win
The U11s ESSSDA season finally kicked-off at Pilrig where the 11s played host to Arniston Rangers. The home side were quick of the mark and were well worth their comfortable half time lead. A quieter second half performance, but with no less skill and free flowing passing and movement, was enough to open their account with a deserved win.
Double defeats for Albion senior sides
Albion Colts only had themselves to blame for taking nothing from their home game v Civil Service. Going 1-0, up yhen conceding two sloppy goals, then levelling through an Irvine header, Albion looked comfortably in control by half-time. It all uravelled 20 minutes into the second period when they conceded a poor penalty to go behind. Despite a spirited late flurry, the Colts conceded 2 late goals to lose 2-5. The margin of defeat doesn't reflect the effort put in by the players, and on another day, with chances taken, and a bit more luck, it might have been a different story. Sums up much of the Colts season really. The senior Ams lost 3-1 away to Linlithgow.
Saturday, 10 March 2012
U11s finally kick-off season
The U11s soccer 7s squad, after last weeks cancellation, will get their season underway with the visit of Arniston Rangers tomorrow. The 10.30am kick-off at Pilrig should draw its usual large crowd.

Possible changes to sub rules next season
At long last a possible solution to the madness of only being allowed to play 3 from 5 subs. The rule change was brought in some years ago, but only applied to youth games up to U17. 19s and U21, as well as Amatuer club were stuck with the 3 from 5. A strong lobby from a host of associations and clubs, including ours, to allow the change at 19/21 and Ams, may now be about to become a reality. The SFA take on the issue can be found here. http://youthfootballscotland.co.uk/news-a-media/featured-news/4347-substitution-progress-at-ifab-meeting
Our own comments were documented in earlier blog listings and can be found here:-

However, lets not jump for joy just yet. The game in this country is loathe to change at the best of times. Lets believe it when we see it!

Ams Colts bag 5 for great win
The Colts blasted their way to an impressive 1-5 win away at Leith Star United. Playing against a stiff breeze and after losing an early goal they stormed back to a deserved half-time lead with goals from Ferguson and Scouse. The addition of three second half goals from Glasgow, a superb Ferguson free kick, and a glorious Johnston header gave Albion a fully deserved 3 points. Big mention to 41 year old centre half Richie Irvine, who galloped about like a teeanger winning every tackle and header, and sailed through the game.
Senior Ams stunned by late goal
The Senior Ams were within 10 seconds of taking full points back to Leith, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Fernieside. Up 0-1, then 1-2 with seconds to go it was a cruel blow to lose such a late goal after all their efforts.
Dejection for U11s
The U11s were denied a start to their new season today when hosts Bonnyrigg Rose called off due to a lack of players. The situation was beyond our control and the short notice given, made it difficult for us to re-arrange a fixture or coaching session.

U11s shine in Pilrig sun
The U11s notched a convincing win at home to Cramond in a pre-season soccer 7s fixture. The football played by this very talented squad of boys was at times exceptional. A brand of football not always on show at Pilrig, enthralled the big crowd, and the standard set, if maintained, will ensure we're in for a good summer season.
Last Weekend Fixtures
It was a topsy turvy weekend for both senior sides. The Senior Ams were tumbled out of the Cairns Cup when losing away to Livingston AFC by 5 goals to 3. The Ams Colts, even after scoring 3 home goals, lost heavily to Edinburgh Southern.

Juniors Back In Action
Albion's Junior sections are back this week after the school holidays. 8/9/10s return tomorrow evening at the usual time of 6.30 at Pilrig School. The U7 restart on Friday at Pilmeny Youth Centre same time 6.30pm
Double defeats for Senior teams
Both Senior sides were left with nothing to show for two decent performances. The Senior Ams lost 1-0 at Saughton 3G, but by all accounts did more than enough to overturn the scorline, and with more composure in front of goal should have won. The Ams Colts endured a windswept 90 minutes as Pilrig played hosts to 2nd place Musselburgh Windsor. The loss of 3 late first half goals gave the colts a mountain to climb, but with the howling gale at their backs in the second period, they failed to claw back the defecit and were left on the end of a 2-4 defeat.
Friday, 17 February 2012
Weekend Fixtures
Both Senior sides are in action this weekend. The Senior Colts host Musselburgh Windsor in a League fixture at Pilrig Park - KO 2pm and the Senior Ams head to Saughton 3G for a cup tie away to Edinburgh South. Note this game has a 3pm kick off.

One Loss....One Draw
Mixed bag for the Senior sides on saturday. The Colts home tie at Pilrig v Dunbar United left a very disappointed squad wondering how they had lost! A first half of total dominance, a mass of missed chances, and the home keeper hardly having a save to make, it was all looking very positive at the half time break. Two glorious chances missed in the first 5 mins of the restart came back to haunt the Colts. A defensive mistake, a bit of inexperience and a bizzare penalty, allowed the visitors to take a 0-3 lead. The Colts eventually awoke to the fact that, even at 0-3 there was still much to play for, and 2 late Ferguson goals, inspired an extreme effort, but the clocked tick towards another defeat. All told, the first half display, apart from the missed chances, was almost faultless! A 17 minute spell in the second period ended in the Colts having to settle for another loss when they deserved far more. The Senior Ams headed along the motorway to Bathgate and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. However, at 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go, the Ams came storming back into the game and levelled with goals from Robertson and Martin, and by all accounts should probably have went on to win the game.
Friday, 10 February 2012
Weekends Fixtures
The mild midweek weather will hopefully ensure some football is played this weekend. Albions Senior Ams make the long trip west to play Bathgate. The host side have made contingency plans to beat any overnight frost. All going well, the tie will kick off at 2pm on grass as planned. If the frost causes any problems, the fixture will switch to astroturf, with a 3pm start. Albion's Senior Colts side will host Dunbar United in a re-arranged league fixture. The Pilrig kick-off is planned for 2pm

Astro Session - Wednesday 8 February
In order to try and beat the freezing weather conditions, Albion's Colts squad are reminded that a session at Leith Academy Astro sports complex, will take place on Wednesday 8 February from 8pm
Saturday, 4 February 2012
Colts travel in vain
There was further dissapointment for the Colts who made the journey to Easthouses only for the game to be called off. There was no chance of the match passing the pitch inspection and a bit of common-sense from the hosts and a mid-morning call would have been welcomed. To arrive at the venue, only to be told that the park had only a 50/50 chance of being playable, was an indication that there was an issue. After walking the park with the match official, an experienced eye would have made your mind up in 30 seconds. Given the additional travel costs of private cars and mini-bus fuel, not to mention the anger of the Colts squad at the huge inconvenience caused, it was a wasted Saturday to say the least.
Weather Wins!
Both Senior games were beaten by the overnight weather. Although, the predicted freeze wasn't as severe, both parks after referees inspections, were declared unplayable.Ah well, another weekend lost.

U7 places up for grabs
The club's U7 soccer fours section is making good progress. Sessions are held each Friday during school term times at Pilmeny Youth Centre, Buchanan Street, Leith from 6.30pm - 7.30pm. We now only have 4 spaces available and the club is keen to fill those in order to allow us to move on to stage two of the groups development. Parents requiring further information, or wanting to enrol are asked to contact the club via webmaster@redpathalbion.co.uk or call the club office @ 0131 554 0953
U10s Sunday 5 February
The U10s coaching teams have been frantically trying to arrange a friendly fixture for Sunday, but all offers to clubs for a game at Pilrig have been gently declined. With the season due to commence in early March, it was important to try and kick-start some games and build some pre-season game time. Things are looking a bit better for next week and the 26th and we're hopeful that games can be arranged. A morning coaching session is being arranged for the 5th however, and parents will be contacted in due course.
Can we beat the big weekend freeze?
Both senior games are in some doubt tomorrow due to the oncoming freezing weather. The Senior Ams are at home to North Edinburgh Wanderers in a league fixture and a morning pitch inspection at Pilrig will be determined by the predicted overnight freeze. The Senior Colts are due to travel to Easthouses to take on the home club in the Q/F of the Robertson Cup. Again this tie is dependent on overnight weather conditions. Updates as we get them.
Friday, 27 January 2012
Weekends Fixtures
Both Senior sides fulfil league fixures tomorrow in what will be a scrap for vital points, with the Senior Ams travelling to Peffermill Pavilion to face Fernieside. The Colts enjoy home advantage as Dunbar United make the trip up the coast to Pilrig Park

Ams caught in trap of inconsistency
The Senior Ams level of inconsistency continues to plague their season. Last weeks great result at league contenders, Barca Milton, should have been the perfect platform to ensure a decent run to the end of the season, but yesterdays visit to Newtongrange, undid all last weeks good work. A 4-1 defeat yesterday was a big setback.
Thursday, 19 January 2012
Weekend Fixtures
Only one game cast this weekend. The Ams Colts have no fixture, with a free week cast. There could be a few free weeks in the pipeline as the Colts only have 8 fixtures remaining. The Senior Ams have a tough one away to Newtongrange Star 'A'. This league fixture, coming off the back of last weeks great away win at table toppers, Barca Milton, will be the perfect opportunity for the Seniors to overturn the 0-5 defeat suffered by this weeks opponents at Pilrig earlier in the season.

Senior Ams start 2012 with a bang
An important 1-2 away win for the Senior Ams was the perfect start to what remains of the 2011/2012 season. League pace-setters Barca Milton were needing to amass maximum points in order to keep their championship hopes alive, but goals from Lenehan and Martin sealed the Albion win after there 0-1 half time lead was pegged back in the second period. The Ams Colts drew 1-1

The long awaited delivery of the clubs new track jackets is finally over. The garments are now fully embroidered and will be delivered and distributed either at the weekend games, or at next weeks training/coaching sessions.
Back to business
Both senior sides were easing into the new year this week with the first training sessions of 2012 taking place. There has been frantic attempts to sign new players for the last leg of the 2011/2012 season and both sides have had mixed success with bringing in new faces. The Senior Ams have added to their squad, with some movement in the other direction. The Ams Colts had earmarked five new targets, with 2 signing on Wednesday, one deciding not to come out of retirement, one still to decide and the other agreeing to sign, in the near future, but with doubts over his fitness. The Colts have also released four players. Will the changes be enough to take both sides to a new level? Time will tell.

Weather wins again

Pitch inspections
The horrendous weather has taken its toll on Pilrig with both parks undergoing almost daily inspections. The constant rainfall this week has left both parks, especially the youth park, very heavy in places. On inspection yesterday both parks were very doubtful.
