Seniors Football Session

The Ams have arranged a football session for Wednesday 29 December at Indoor Soccer World from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. Similar booking is in place for next Wednesday 5 January. Time to be confirmed. All senior squad members call management team for details of both sessions.

January Senior and Youth fixtures

The youth associations have allocated fixtures for Weekend 8/9 January. A number of factors could work against us in order to fulfil those games however. The weather is still patchy and waterlogged parks and overnight frost is still an issue. Also, the local authority have already went public and informed associations and clubs, that parks will not re-open until Saturday 15 January! Pilrig Park school will not start the new term until Tuesday 11 January, with the club not due to restart our sessions until Monday 17 January! The Amateur association has not posted any fixtures for the 8 January, but that may change. Current youth fixtures are:-
Saturday 8 January...19s away to Fernieside
Sunday 9 January.....16s home to Peebles
Both matches, even at this early stage are extremely doubtful due to the above issue's

16s Youth....Training sessions

The U16s will hold a training session on Wednesday 29 December at Pilrig Park from 12noon to 2pm. Currently holding top spot in their division, the squad will shake away the festive cobwebs, and keep ticking over until their next fixture.

Snow go again!

Heavy overnight snow has again beaten us. Today's U16 game at home to Cavalry Park is off.

Saturday 18 December 2010

Senior Squad...Christmas Bash

Senior squad members will hold their Xmas doo this evening. Starting at the clubs senior social base, the Strathie Bar. Food will be provided, and festivities commence at 7pm

U16 Sunday fixture update

Sunday's opponents Peebles are unable to travel due to the heavy snow falling in the Borders. However, the club have re-arranged, with the consent of the association, to play Cavalry Park Sports Club. The Re-cast league fixture will of course be subject to overnight weather conditions. Pilrig Park was playable, when inspected today, and we are hopeful that the playing surface will be okay for Sunday. The club is in contact with match official Mr Etchels and he has been fully updated on the situation. All U16 youth players are asked to report at PP for 12:30. Any changes, and players will be notified.

Friday 17 December 2010

Game on for Sunday

Pilrig Park has made a remarkable recovery from the recent weather conditions. A quick surface check on Tuesday evening gave us some hope and the rise in temperatures has encouraged us to plan ahead for Sundays U16 Fixture. Another inspection will take place this afternoon, but we're very confident that the game will make it, barring any further weather changes.

16s training....Friday 17 December

The clubs U16 youth side will return to full training on 17 December players are asked to report to Pilrig Park at 2pm

Monday 13 December 2010

This weeks fixtures

Fixtures have been cast for this weekend 18/19 December.
The seniors have a free week, although an afternoon pre Christmas night out fitness session is planned for soccer world on Saturday afternoon.
U19s as last week away to Fernieside
U16s as last week home to Peebles
Pilrig Park is still covered in a blanket of snow and even with the ensuing thaw the park has virtually no chance of being playable. However, we will continue to take a look at the area as the week progresses. Still, if the predicted mid-week snow which is forecast, eventually arrives then we can put the playing kit away until January.

Colts Tuesday evening sessions all go

Our regular Tuesday evening coaching sessions for our colts sections are back to normal this week. Usual times at Pilrig Park School. This will be the final session of 2010.

Saturday 11 December 2010

Friday 10 December 2010

Albion sides keeping active

Albinos seniors and youth sides are keeping their fitness levels up during the snow snap.
Our U16s will utilise the excellent facilities at Leith Acadmey with a fitness and swim sessions from 1-3 on Friday 10 December. The seniors are looking to book a slot at indoor complex Soccer World on Saturday 11 December.

Monday 6 December 2010

Could be a long winter?

Edinburgh Leisure, who have responsibility for most council football facilities, have posted that all football parks will be closed until further notice. Sounds ominous. Looks like no further games until sometime in January 2011, if we're lucky.
Roll on a summer football season. Can't come quick enough.

Overnight weather beats us again

The local authority called at 9:10 today and informed us that there will be no school let's at Pilrig Park this week, including weekends. The overnight snowfall and current blizzard conditions are causing havoc in the city, with many schools closing at lunchtime. For once they seem to have had a rush of common sense and made a quick judgement. With all let's off this week, the club will leave it to team section leaders, to determine if they wish to make alternative arrangements for indoor Fitness/coaching sessions. Any arrangements made will be posted when known.

Sunday 5 December 2010

Colts Coaching sessions resume

As the schools try to get back to normal this week, Pilrig Park school will be open for club sessions. The Colts sessions will resume on Tuesday 7 December
U8s from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.....U9/10 from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
Youth sections- U16s and U19s are also hoping to get back on track. However, as the youth sides utilise the outdoor grass sites, under floodlight, these will no doubt be unplayable. A decision will be made on whether the youth sessions will go ahead on Monday evening and posted here.

Club Fixtures for Sat 11/Sun12 December

It's a long shot, and highly unlikely unless there's a major change in the weather and temperature, but fixtures have been allocated for the weekend and are:
Sat 11 Dec......Ams away to Danderhall
Sat 11 Dec......19s away to Fernieside
Sun 12 Dec......16s Home to Peebles

Fingers Crossed

Request from our Alpine Fan Club!

The club received the following email from Switzerland over the weekend. It's not the first request the club has had for merchandise. We've forwarded a number of items abroad in the past, from old jerseys to club pennants. We'll look after Gottfried and ship some items over very soon

I am a great football fan and as a collector of metal lapel badges of football clubs I would be very grateful and proud for sending me please the metal badge of the Redpath Albion A.F.C.

Thank you very much in advance and good luck to all members of your club!

With the best greetings

U16s beat the Snow with indoor session

Albion U16s will beat the weather conditions Tomorrow (Friday 3 December)with a fitness session at Leith Academy. Players are requested to attend from 1pm to 3pm. Session will be split between the fitness gym then use of the swimming pool. Reminder to bring appropriate kit.

Wednesday 1 December 2010

Pilrig School and Leith Astro coaching sessions

U16 and U19 coaching sessions at Pilrig Park this evening have been cancelled.
The seniors session at Leith Academy Floodlit Astro complex will also be closed. The weather conditions win again!

Youth Coaching Sessions

Due to the ongoing closure of Pilrig School this evenings youth sessions have been postponed.
This evenings Senior session at Leith Academy Astro is also in doubt. The school will make a decision this morning and we'll post their decision when notified.

Monday 29 November 2010

Snow vs. Albion......Snow wins!

All city schools will be closed for a second day tomorrow due to the severe weather conditions and unfortunately, this means the evening coaching sessions, for U8/9s and the U10s, have been cancelled. Coaches are calling round to inform parents.

Fixed Odds Update

Saturdays fixed odds perm saw 2 games void due to postponement and the lack of pools panel scores prediction. Even with the perm being judged from the remaining four fixtures there were no winners. Regrettably, due to possible cancellation of our club fixtures due to parks possibly being unplayable, and the close down for the festive period in two weeks time, we will now defer the fixed odds until sometime in January 2011. There will be no sheets distributed or fixed odds fixtures allocated until further notice. The cash prize of £100 will roll over until the restart.

Weekend Fixtures 4 & 5 December

The weather being what it is, there will probably be no chance of the following fixtures being fulfilled, but we'll list them anyway...
Saturday 4 December....Seniors away to Danderhall Miners
Saturday 4 December....U19 Youth away to Fernieside
Sunday 5 December......U16 Youth home to Peebles
Another total fixture wipeout is on the cards, but we'll keep you posted as the week progresses.

Arctic Conditions in Sunny Leith

You'll all now be aware of the weather conditions that have enveloped the city and Leith and obviously this is having a huge impact on club events. Due to the closure of all city schools our midweek sessions at Pilrig Park School are in doubt. Council officials telephoned this morning to inform us that if schools are designated as closed, evening let's will also be cancelled. The club will be getting daily updates from the local authority and we'll post them on the blog when they become public. Wrap up warm, it could be a long week!

Saturday 27 November 2010

Mini Bus and next two weeks fixtures

Club teams are reminded that the club mini bus will be undergoing it's annual MOT in the next ten days. As we await confirmation of next weeks fixtures be aware that the bus may be unavailable for away fixtures until the MOT is complete. Further details will be posted soon.

Futsal deferred until further notice

The clubs proposed Futsal sessions due to commence on Friday 26 November have been deferred until further notice. It's been difficult to pin down our venue at the Pilmeny Youth Centre due to accessing the times required, and it was felt that the proposed sessions, would benefit from deferring until the new year. Further details posted on website soon.

Monday evening fitness sessions postponed

Usual Monday evening fitness sessions for Senior and U19youth squads have been postponed until after the Christmas break. The session were held as an addition to the regular weekly coaching sessions. Further details about restart dates will be posted on the website

Albion U16 vs. Leith Academy Seniors

Our U16s switched their usual Friday afternoon coaching session for a fixture v Leith Academy S5/6s at Academy Park. As current table toppers the 16s needed a full blown challenge to keep them ticking over and the hurriedly arranged fixture gave them the opportunity to stretch their legs in a competitive setting. The fixture, held yesterday, didn't go according to plan, as the lads found themselves 2-0 down inside ten minutes. Things picked up as they matched their older opponents, but just as the lads were taking control a petulant act of indiscipline saw them reduced to ten men. It was now no way back for the lads as their stronger, more physical opponents scored another two goals to run out 4-0 winners. An interesting footnote to the game. All four Leith Academy goals were scored by Albion U19 striker Carlos Herrera.
It's a funny old game right enough.

Kicking our heels

Overnight snow left all three club teams at a loose end this weekend. The seniors fixture at Pilrig was only postponed due to some areas of the home park being frozen. It may have made it with a morning thaw, but common sense told us otherwise, with an early morning inspection taking it's toll. The U19 youth game was called off by opponents Spartans as their park at Civil Service Ground was snowbound. Likewise the U16 Sunday fixture was an early casualty with more frost and snow predicted. Usual weekend finacial overheads still have to be met however, and with no game income, the club loses a substantial three figure sum.
Further postponements between now and christmas will have a severe affect on club funds.

Why a Blog?

Well it's a way of pushing up to the minute club news and keeping everyone with an interest in the club informed. It's another medium for club promotion. We'll give it a try and see how it goes.
