Juniors head for summer break

Last nights Junior coaching session was the last before everyone heads off for their summer break. The new ESSDA season commences on Sunday 19/26 August. In order to prepare for the new season, our 9s/10s and U11 squads, are reminded that sessions for the new season at Pilrig Park begin on Tuesday 31 July

Seniors rule change long overdue

The national legislators have finally listened to the people that matter, the players. For as long as we can remember there has been a huge lobby of local associations from U19 through to Amateurs imploring the games "rulers" to allow the use of five substitutes to be used at each game. Next season the associations administering 19s to Senior will trial the five substitute rule. Now at least if you list 16 players to play clubs will have an opportunity to offer all 16 players some game time.

Albion 11s end season in style

Albion's early morning trip to Roslin for their end of season fixture was wrapped up in some style as they produced another superb high standard performance. Sun, rain and a stiff breeze, added to the excitement and both sets of players coped admirably with the good old Scottish weather. A high return of goals from Albion ensured the lads finished the season on a real positive note.

Rain stops play!

To use an old cricketing comment, Rain Stopped Play at Pilrig this morning, as the club was left with no alternative but to postpone the U11s game. The constant rainfall left the park unsuitable for football at this level. There was a 50/50 chance of playing but dragging Beeslack in to Leith from out of town left us with no option. We'll try to play the fixture next Sunday. It was particularly disappointing for everyone as this was officially the last game of the ESSSDA season.

Saturday session postponed

The regular U11s coaching session, due to take place tomorrow at Pilrig Park, has been postponed. With constant showers over the last 48 hours, the sevens park at Pilrig, is being preserved to ensure that Sundays U11 fixture vs. Beeslack can go ahead. Any activity on the park tomorrow would have an adverse affect on the playing surface.

Albion U10s

Albion will register an U10s squad with ESSSDA for start of the New season in August. In keeping with the clubs player pathway the next development stage for the U10s is a commitment to enjoying soccer sevens games, home and away, on a Sunday morning. The lads parents have been consulted on the proposal and the feedback has been very positive. With a dedicated coaching team in place these plans are now being facilitated with more details to follow throughout the Summer.

Seniors arrange fourth warm up game

The Seniors have now added a fourth pre season warm up fixture to their busy list with a visit to Edinburgh Acadademicals planned for Wednesday 1st August. More details to follow.

Final ESSSDA fixture takes place on Sunday

The U11s short soccer 7s season ends on Sunday with the lads playing host to Beeslack Thistle at Pilrig Park. Kick off is at usual time of 10.30am. It's hoped that we can arrange two additional friendly games before breaking for the holiday on Tuesday 26 June.

Albions YouTube Chanel getting bigger

Two new updates to the Albion YouTube Chanel have been processed over the weekend. The U11s games vs. Currie and Danderhall are now online.

11s suffer another idle weekend

The U11s were left with another blank Sunday when their planned game away to Arniston was cancelled due to the home side withdrawing from the association. This sequence of call offs has had an impact on the lads playing season. Arniston are now the fourth team from their division to withdraw which accumulates to almost 50% of the teams walking away from the Sunday morning game.

Junior coaching sessions...Tuesday 5 June

The junior coaching sessions planned for Pilrig Park on Tuesday 5 June are stil going ahead despite the jubilee holiday. Lads are requested to meet at usual times.

Senior Ams. It's official.

It is with some regret that the club has made the major decision to withdraw the Senior Ams from the L&EAFA this season. A culmination of issues concerning the administration and management structures surrounding the Ams was debated over the past two months, but solutions were unable to be found. The management team took a decision to step down from the never-ending duties associated with running a side at Ams level and the club fully respected the decision. With Ams manager Geoff Cowan moving out of the city, and assistant Kevin Ross juggling increasing work commitments, the club proposed a number of solutions to the existing squad, but the response was disappointing. The association were officially notified today. Our heartfelt thanks to Geoff and Kevin for all their time and effort. With  25 years club service between them they brought a stability to club affairs at senior level, and the often thankless tasks associated with facilitating and administering team issues, have now run their course. Our thanks to both from everyone associated with the club. The Colts squad will now continue to fly the banner for Redpath Albion.

Albion U11s light up Pilrig with classy display

It was a day to remember at Pilrig Park as this talented young squad of U11s displayed a style of play that brought the "house" down at Pilrig. From beginning to end, the ease with which they stroked the ball around the big playing surface at their home ground was at times breathtaking. The passing and movement was of the highest quality at times, and the subtle touches and goalmouth finishes, were a measure of the work and effort put in by the Albion coaching team, and indeed the players. Big mention to keeper "Stacky" Miller who's shot stopping and ball handling was a big talking point among the coaches. The extra work "Stacky" and the coaching team have been putting in recently, with specific keeper coaching, was witnessed today. Visitors Danderhall, themselves full of good skilful players, tried hard to make a game of it, and gave "Stacky" a busy time in spells, but in the end the sweeping and flowing football produced by this special crop of players, confirmed their place as victors.
