Snow vs. Albion......Snow wins!

All city schools will be closed for a second day tomorrow due to the severe weather conditions and unfortunately, this means the evening coaching sessions, for U8/9s and the U10s, have been cancelled. Coaches are calling round to inform parents.

Fixed Odds Update

Saturdays fixed odds perm saw 2 games void due to postponement and the lack of pools panel scores prediction. Even with the perm being judged from the remaining four fixtures there were no winners. Regrettably, due to possible cancellation of our club fixtures due to parks possibly being unplayable, and the close down for the festive period in two weeks time, we will now defer the fixed odds until sometime in January 2011. There will be no sheets distributed or fixed odds fixtures allocated until further notice. The cash prize of £100 will roll over until the restart.

Weekend Fixtures 4 & 5 December

The weather being what it is, there will probably be no chance of the following fixtures being fulfilled, but we'll list them anyway...
Saturday 4 December....Seniors away to Danderhall Miners
Saturday 4 December....U19 Youth away to Fernieside
Sunday 5 December......U16 Youth home to Peebles
Another total fixture wipeout is on the cards, but we'll keep you posted as the week progresses.

Arctic Conditions in Sunny Leith

You'll all now be aware of the weather conditions that have enveloped the city and Leith and obviously this is having a huge impact on club events. Due to the closure of all city schools our midweek sessions at Pilrig Park School are in doubt. Council officials telephoned this morning to inform us that if schools are designated as closed, evening let's will also be cancelled. The club will be getting daily updates from the local authority and we'll post them on the blog when they become public. Wrap up warm, it could be a long week!

Mini Bus and next two weeks fixtures

Club teams are reminded that the club mini bus will be undergoing it's annual MOT in the next ten days. As we await confirmation of next weeks fixtures be aware that the bus may be unavailable for away fixtures until the MOT is complete. Further details will be posted soon.

Futsal deferred until further notice

The clubs proposed Futsal sessions due to commence on Friday 26 November have been deferred until further notice. It's been difficult to pin down our venue at the Pilmeny Youth Centre due to accessing the times required, and it was felt that the proposed sessions, would benefit from deferring until the new year. Further details posted on website soon.

Monday evening fitness sessions postponed

Usual Monday evening fitness sessions for Senior and U19youth squads have been postponed until after the Christmas break. The session were held as an addition to the regular weekly coaching sessions. Further details about restart dates will be posted on the website

Albion U16 vs. Leith Academy Seniors

Our U16s switched their usual Friday afternoon coaching session for a fixture v Leith Academy S5/6s at Academy Park. As current table toppers the 16s needed a full blown challenge to keep them ticking over and the hurriedly arranged fixture gave them the opportunity to stretch their legs in a competitive setting. The fixture, held yesterday, didn't go according to plan, as the lads found themselves 2-0 down inside ten minutes. Things picked up as they matched their older opponents, but just as the lads were taking control a petulant act of indiscipline saw them reduced to ten men. It was now no way back for the lads as their stronger, more physical opponents scored another two goals to run out 4-0 winners. An interesting footnote to the game. All four Leith Academy goals were scored by Albion U19 striker Carlos Herrera.
It's a funny old game right enough.

Kicking our heels

Overnight snow left all three club teams at a loose end this weekend. The seniors fixture at Pilrig was only postponed due to some areas of the home park being frozen. It may have made it with a morning thaw, but common sense told us otherwise, with an early morning inspection taking it's toll. The U19 youth game was called off by opponents Spartans as their park at Civil Service Ground was snowbound. Likewise the U16 Sunday fixture was an early casualty with more frost and snow predicted. Usual weekend finacial overheads still have to be met however, and with no game income, the club loses a substantial three figure sum.
Further postponements between now and christmas will have a severe affect on club funds.

Why a Blog?

Well it's a way of pushing up to the minute club news and keeping everyone with an interest in the club informed. It's another medium for club promotion. We'll give it a try and see how it goes.
